My Secret Project

I cannot believe how long it has been since I posted to this blog! Almost 2 months! I have been busy working on a secret project, that I can finally share with you. However, Shutterfly sent it to my other blog, so to see it, please visit http://delilahsjourney.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-secret-project.html.

A New Strap

I finally got my iron and am able to do some sewing. Unfortunately, I have had a bit of a creative block and couldn't think of anything to start. Blah. I finally decided to make a simple camera strap. It was a quick project and I think it has kick started my creative juices again. I really like the bright colors of this strap. Perfect for the beautiful weather.

Help Please

I'm still waiting on my iron, so no sewing being done here. But I did manage to get my husband to sand down an old desk for me. Not the hard part, what color to paint it? I am open to all suggestions. I would like something bright and cheerful, so NO black or brown.

Here's a pic of the desk in question (only top sanded at this point):

Initially I was thinking turquoise, as I really need to get it out of my system. However, this will be the desk my husband will be working at, in the kitchen. SO, I want color, but nothing my husband will be unhappy with. Please help!

A Whole MONTH?!?

I cannot believe I didn't post anything the entire month of February! What's even worse is that I barely touched my sewing machine the entire month either. So sad! I plan to rectify this as soon as possible. Unfortunately, my iron bit the dust and I can't sew without one. I ordered a new one today, from Amazon. I could have just gone to Walmart, but I really wanted a good quality iron. Luckily I had earned enough gift cards through Swagbucks, that I only spent what I would have on one from Walmart. I'm finally going to get a big girl iron. The Rowenta DW8080 Pro Master Iron.

I am very excited! I can't wait to get my hands on it! (I will have to wait until next week or later. I saved a few bucks and went with Free 5-8 day shipping.)

Hopefully I will have some new projects going very soon.

Cosmo Bag Finish

Let me start by saying this was the most challenging sewing project I have taken on, to date. And I ROCKED it! (No modesty here, folks.) This is the first project I have done from a book/pattern that didn't have a PDF tutorial with it. I really like those PDF tutorials. They take the guess work out of sewing (at least most do). Following the instructions for this bag were a bit confusing at times (I chalk it up to being a true blue beginner), but all in all it wasn't so bad. However, it was very tedious. Cutting all the pattern pieces for both fabric and interfacing and then fusing them together took forever. As in a whole day. Then there was the sewing, clipping curves and pressing, which took another day and a half. Total time spent: 2.5 days, but totally worth it. What do you think?

This bag is HUGE, which happens to be what I am needing in a diaper bag. Yes, I do have diaper bags, but none of them are big enough. If this bag isn't big enough then Delilah will have to start carrying her own stuff. I can't wait to put it to use!

Now on to another project with interfacing...a t-shirt quilt.

Cosmo Bag Fabric

Below are the fabrics I am going to use for my Cosmo Bag. As I have posted before, I joined the Amy Butler's Style Stitches Sew Along with My Crafty Crap. I am planning on this bag mostly being a Diaper Bag so I went with some whimsical fabric in my favorite colors. I plan to document my journey as best as I can. This will be my first time working from a pattern (with not tutorial in place). I can't wait to get started.

New Business Venture

The past week or so I have been working on a new business venture. I am going to start a Scrap 4 Hire business. I am very excited about this! If you are interested in learning more about this, please click on the 'Scrap 4 Hire' tab at the top of this page.

I will still continue to sew and blog about it. It will just be more financially feasible to buy all those yummy fabrics if I have a little extra income coming in.

Wish me luck!
